Cotton, like all natural fibers, does shed, but not as much or for as long as wool. To reduce the chances of shedding of all natural fibers, it’s best to focus on flatweave rugs. These are woven, the more tightly the better, locking the yarns together and reducing the likelihood of fibers loosening from the yarns and shedding or pilling. It’s a trade-off, as tightly woven rugs aren’t as comfortable as their looser counterparts, though many of them feel pleasantly soft under foot.
