Flatweave wool rugs are simply woven with the weft going back and forth between the yarns in the warp. These are different from hooked rugs and tufted rugs, as only tiny portions of the yarns are exposed, greatly reducing the possibility of fibers shedding from the yarns. Many rug experts, including Lisa of Rug Chic, prefer Flaweave wool rugs to other wool rugs. Hook & Loom offers Thick Woven wool rugs, which are flatweave woven on Panja looms, where the skilled weavers use a small hand rake to tighten the weave after every pass of the weft yarns. These are extremely durable and the least likely to shed.
