Attractive, affordable rugs, hand-woven in a range of eco-friendly colors.Who says Earth-Friendly can’t be elegant?
Recovered Fiber
Our rugs are made from new yarns, freshly spun from recovered fiber.
When arable land is not used to grow cotton, it can be used to grow food. At Hook & Loom, we use no virgin fibers — cotton or otherwise — no fertilizers and no pesticides. Most importantly, our fiber recovery process makes no demand on precious water resources.
Eco-Friendly – No Dyes
We make our rugs with recycled fiber from clothing and textiles in a wide range of colors and hues.
By carefully sorting colors into similar hues and shades, our supplier creates design opportunities according to our specifications. We never dye any of our yarn (even natural or vegetable dyeing) as this process uses chemicals and pollutes a tremendous quantity of water. We are proud to use creative solutions that do not foul the earth.
Reducing Landfill Use
Less than 25% of clothing and textiles are donated for re-use or recycling.
Most of the textiles added to landfills are clean and suitable for fiber recovery. By creating demand for recovered fiber we not only reduce landfill use, but inspire other companies to follow our example. Ours is not the easiest method, but on so many levels it is the best method.
Charities and Jobs
Clothing recycling and fiber recovery support job creation at home and abroad.
Recycling fiber is labor intensive. Most of the first phase is done by charities like Goodwill and Salvation Army, which do a great job of providing work and low-cost goods to people in need. Our yarn supplier pays for excess textiles and employs people to sort materials, remove zippers, buttons and snaps, and then shred and comb the fibers into yarns. Skilled craftspeople weave these yarns into Hook & Loom’s distinctive patterns and styles.
Skilled Craftsmanship
Our rugs are hand-crafted by skilled workers on traditional wooden looms.
Making the greenest rugs possible isn’t much help if the rugs don’t last. From hand weaving and braiding to finishing and inspection (ours are inspected a minimum of three times) we assure that every rug we ship is made beautifully and made to last.
Versatile Designs
You shouldn’t have to design a room around a rug.
We are able to use a wide variety of colors, but we don’t do so on any one rug. We want to offer a choice of rugs in which one or two colors tie in with your surrounding décor. We feel that rugs are to be seen and not heard.
We offer a selection of delightful rugs for a living room, bedroom, kitchen, hallway, stairway, bath, or even a dorm room. We hope you will be pleased with what you see in our collection.
